Questions to Ask Your HVAC Contractor

Questions to Ask Your HVAC Contractor

Do you know the right questions to ask your HVAC contractor?

Do you know which questions you should be asking your HVAC contractor?

Did you know that hiring your contractor can be even more important than finding a system? While it’s important to find the right system for your home, it’s not going to matter which system you choose if it’s installed incorrectly.

When it comes to your contractor… Ask for recommendations from friends and family. Check out online reviews. And, make sure that the person you hire is fully qualified to be working on your comfort system.

Once you have narrowed down your options, you have to make sure that you ask the right questions.

  • If you have hot and cold spots in your home, ask about their multi-stage offerings.
  • If you have pets, ask about reducing pet dander.
  • If you have allergies, ask about allergy-reducing IAQ products.
  • Ask about controlling humidity in your home.
  • Ask if they have the appropriate permits, licenses, certifications, etc.
  • Ask about room-by-room comfort control.
  • Ask about reducing dust.
  • Ask about high-efficiency heating systems (if you live in a place with cold winters) and high-efficiency cooling systems (if you live in a place with hot summers).Talk to your local contractor about all the different HVAC options for your unique home

Remember, just because someone offers the lowest price, doesn’t mean you are getting the best deal. Oftentimes, running a reputable business will mean that a contractor has to charge more. That “too-good-to-be-true” deal will be just that… Avoid quotes over the phone and on the back of business cards. Avoid a contractor who does not do a proper load calculation to determine the size of your unit. Your heating and air conditioning system is an investment in your comfort – make it a smart one.

Did you make sure to ask some of these questions the last time you bought an HVAC system?

My cousin is having problems with her air conditioner and is looking to hire an HVAC contractor fast. It is good to know that one should ask for recommendations from friends and family. It would be good to ensure the person you hire is fully qualified to be working on your system. We will start asking around.

My wife just told me that we need to find an air conditioning contractor, and I think that making sure we ask the right questions is important. You talked about asking your air conditioning contractor how to better control humidity in the home, which is something we’ve had issues with in the past. I hadn’t realized that an HVAC contractor could help us with that, so I’m going to be sure that we ask! Thanks for the help!

My wife and I are thinking about getting a new furnace for the winter but we aren’t sure where to start. I like that you suggest asking a contractor about allergy-reducing IAQ products if you have allergies. My wife gets them almost every season so anything they can do to remedy that sounds great! Thanks for sharing.

My parents have been having issues with their heating and air system, and I think that some tips would be good. I’m glad you mentioned that you want to look at multi stage heating and air, because I think that would help them a lot. I’m going to have to share your information with them and see what we can find!

I agree that the right contractor can either make or break your experience and quality of your heating system. You want to make sure you find the right person to install your unit. It’s a good idea to do plenty of research and make sure they are fully qualified, like you said.

I really appreciate your tip to make sure that your HVAC contractor has the correct licensing and certifications! My wife and I have been thinking of getting a new furnace to put in our basement and we want to make sure that it is installed correctly. I will be sure to find a contractor who has the correct licensing and certifications!

I never knew that you could have room-by-room comfort control with some of your air conditioning units! My wife and I have been thinking of getting a new air conditioning unit, and I have one daughter who is only cold. I will be sure to check if her room can always be warm, while the rest of the house is a colder temperature!

I need to get the ducts in my heating system cleaned out by a professional before winter comes and I start using them a lot, so I am glad that I found this article. You make a great point that when looking for an HVAC contractor you should check online reviews to see if previous clients were satisfied with their service. Also, I will make sure to choose a contractor who has extensive experience cleaning ducts because this will give me peace of mind that they are knowledgeable and will provide a thorough cleaning.

My wife and I want to get a new heater for this winter, so thanks for sharing this. I like your point about checking reviews online first. I’ll be sure to do this so I can narrow down my choices based on what past clients have said.

Thanks for pointing out that we can make sure we hire a quality HVAC contractor by checking their online reviews beforehand. My husband and I are currently looking for an HVAC contractor to fix a problem with our heating system. I think checking potential contractors’ reviews beforehand will be really helpful, so I appreciate you sharing that advice!

Thanks for the tip to ask about multi-stage offerings if we have hot or cold spots in our home. I was doing some cleaning last night and noticed a couple spots that felt much colder than the rest of the house. I wasn’t sure what questions to ask when we talk to a heating contractor, so your tip about multi-stage offerings is much appreciated.

My air conditioning has been blowing warm air recently, and your article had some great tips for choosing a contractor that could help with this issue. I liked how you said to check a potential hire out online to read reviews from previous clients and find out if they’re fully qualified to be working on my system. Thanks; I’ll keep this in mind when hiring an HVAC contractor.
